What is ABDM?

India's Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission — explained simply

ABHA Health ID (14-digit Health ID)

A unique 14-digit identifier for every Indian citizen, linked to their health records. Patients create an ABHA ID using Aadhaar or mobile. It's like a Aadhaar for health records — one ID for all your medical history across providers.

PHR (Personal Health Records) app

The government's NHA Health Records app (and private PHR apps) let patients see all their health records from ABDM-linked providers in one place. OpdNest pushes prescriptions and reports to this app automatically.

Health Facility Registry (HFR)

A national registry of all clinics, hospitals, labs, and pharmacies. Registering your clinic gets you an ABHA Facility ID, which is required to send and receive patient records on the ABDM network.

PM-JAY (Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana)

India's national health insurance scheme covering 50 crore beneficiaries. ABDM-integrated clinics can verify patient eligibility and submit cashless claims digitally through PM-JAY empanelment.

What is ABDM and why does it matter for my clinic?+

ABDM (Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission) is India's national digital health ecosystem, launched by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. It creates a unified health ID (ABHA) for every citizen, enables consent-based health record sharing between providers, and is the foundation for PM-JAY digital claims. Clinics on ABDM-integrated software can access patient records from other providers, push prescriptions to patients' phones, and participate in government health schemes digitally.

Does OpdNest support ABHA Health ID creation?+

Yes. OpdNest integrates with the ABDM Patient Registration API. You can create ABHA IDs for new patients directly from the patient registration screen using Aadhaar OTP or mobile OTP verification. Existing patients can also link their ABHA ID to their OpdNest record.

What is an ABHA Facility ID and does OpdNest support it?+

An ABHA Facility ID (also called HFR ID — Health Facility Registry) identifies your clinic on the ABDM network. It is required for your clinic to send and receive patient health records digitally. OpdNest guides clinic administrators through the ABDM Health Facility Registry registration process and links the HFR ID to your account.

How does ABDM health record sharing work in OpdNest?+

After a consultation, OpdNest can automatically push prescriptions and documents to the patient's PHR app (NHA Health Records app). This is done with the patient's digital consent, which is captured during registration. Patients can view all their health records from OpdNest and other ABDM-linked providers on their phone.

Is ABDM integration mandatory for clinics in India?+

ABDM integration is currently voluntary for private clinics but is strongly encouraged by the government. It is required for government empanelled facilities and those participating in PM-JAY (Ayushman Bharat) claims. ABDM Facility registration support, PHR health record sharing, and PM-JAY eligibility verification are included in the Advanced plan (₹499/month).
